September 9 is not only the liberation of İzmir from occupation; it is also the day our nation rose again and declared its will for independence to the world. This blessed day in our history is the clearest proof that freedom and hope will always prevail over oppression and darkness.
The 103 years that have passed have not changed this truth. Even today, every threat against the peace, unity, and independence of our nation will once again be met with the same faith, the same courage, and the same steadfast stance. We know today, as we did then, that no threat can endure against our unity and our belief in independence.
As Dokuz Eylül University, we are honored to carry the spirit of this blessed date, from which we take our name, into the future. While advancing on the path of science, we raise our youth with the values of our Republic, transforming the heroism of the past into the responsibility of the future.
On this meaningful day, I respectfully commemorate Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, first and foremost, along with all his comrades-in-arms and our cherished martyrs with gratitude and reverence, and I proudly celebrate the 103rd anniversary of İzmir’s liberation.
